I thought it was soooo important to just ‘be happy’ and ‘keep smiling’. But looking back, this couldn't be more wrong. The mentality that we should never be sad, and only focus on the positive is actually really damaging. We need to feel ALL our emotions, even the ‘bad’ ones. We can’t heal without exploring the entire spectrum of emotion. Of course we should be happy and smile, but not if it is hiding another emotion. Happiness isn’t happiness if it is forced! Remember besties, we are allowed to feel sad, we are allowed to feel down, we are allowed to want things we don’t have.
