Their mission is to provide more people with convenient access to licensed therapists who can help those in need live a happier and healthier life.
Talkspace are not trying to replace in-office therapy. Many people prefer that, which is fine. Talkspace was created so more people could benefit from therapy and overcome their day-to-day challenges in a stigma-free environment.
With Talkspace, you can send a therapist text messages, audio messages, as well as picture and video messages in a private, text-based chat room.
Talkspace started out offering real-time video sessions.
They quickly realized that users were not interested in this modality (initially surprising to us), and instead preferred to communicate with therapists via text messaging — without the need to schedule an appointment.
People were looking for convenience and flexibility. We didn’t anticipate this finding, but it inspired us to revamp the model for online therapy we were creating, and move to text-based therapy.
This experience was so powerful, and continues to remind us as a company to always pay attention to our users, and respond to their behaviors and preferences.

How Mental's Perspective
It can be difficult to wait days or weeks until your next therapy appointment.
After all, what you're going through does not pause in between sessions. What we love most about Talkspace is that you can send your therapist a message whenever you’re near a laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
