How to be a Mental Care Provider

As care providers, we're creating and implementing the tools and support people need to take care of their mental health and wellbeing...

I'm George, the founder of How Mental. I've been innovating in the mental health sector for over a decade and have my own experiences of depression, anxiety and suicidal tendencies so I get what it means to suffer mentally and I know how much effort it takes to create high quality support for vulnerable people.

That's why I want what you do to be seen and accessed by the people that need it most! 👁🥰

In this society, it's easy to slip into old patterns and think we're here to compete: But we're NOT! In fact, we need to COLLABORATE to make sure every individual gets the help they need. The more of us there are providing diverse kinds of support - the better!

As Mental Care Providers, we are the beating heart of How Mental ;), the biggest movement of people and organisations around the world on a mission to make wellbeing the global priority. And we've got to lead by example to achieve this #TheMentalMovement ✊🌍❤️🧠

Ready to be a Mental Care Provider?! *Virtual Fist Bump* Here are 10 ways to do it! 😍

1. Take care of yourself 😘

Taking care of other people starts by taking care of YOU! If we're not leading the way in terms of taking care of our wellbeing, why on Earth should anyone else do it? Not only is it important for our credibility, it gives us the ability to be the best version of ourselves in our work and beyond.

If you’re not sure how to do that or need a helping hand, don’t worry boo - we got you! Check out my article for Madvocates here for an overview of all the different ways we can help you stand up for mental health, starting with your own.

2. Care for your people! 👌

Whether it’s our socials, our newsletter or even just sharing our website with all the tools, knowledge and community it brings - give your people a continuous feed of mental health support! This makes it EASY for them to remember and prioritise their wellbeing.

Want a helping hand spreading the word? Just let us know by emailing hello@howmental.com. We can send you a special email template to inspire action!

3. Let's spread the word about what you do! 📣

No matter who you are, or what you do - individual or organisation - if you care about people’s mental health and want to help them through your product or service, get in touch with us on hello@howmental.com.

We're here to share what you do with the world and make sure that everyone who needs you, can find you!

4. Get your brand & marketing on point! 😎

We know how difficult it is to perfect your product/service. But if people never hear about you or don't know why you're right for them, well then...what's the point? No, it's not just important they hear from you on World Mental Health Day - take people on that journey with you the WHOLE WAY THROUGH! 💁

We believe the mental health sector deserves branding and marketing as good as the Nike's and Apple's of this world! That's why we specialise in making mental health as engaging as can be. So, if you need help with getting your story out there and getting people to care - talk to us. As experts in this sector, we'll make sure that it not only looks amazing but that everything truly caters to people's needs and stands out from the rest of the world of wellbeing.

5. Let's get creative together 🎨

Doing the same things we've always done is NOT gonna change things. So, let's do something crazy! Got an idea for a campaign in mind? Just wanna have a brainstorming sesh? Let's do it!

Let’s see if we can come up with a creative way to spread the word about it together on our socials and beyond. The possibilities are endless - whether it's making some Merch together, running an event or making something entirely new from scratch! We are here for it allll!

6. Need some advice? We've got you! 💪

As care providers like you, it's NOT easy doing what we do. We've been supporting people and organisations in this field for over a decade and cultivated a network of partners across the sector so we know all the pitfalls and don't want you to make the same mistakes as those before us!

If you need a listening ear or a helping hand with anything from product to strategy, marketing to internal ops, let us know and we'll be sure to help you in whatever way we can. ;)

7. Connect with the Mental Community 🧠👫

We’re all on this journey together - and working in silo only slows things down. We know who else is out there and willing to collaborate. So, let us know what you’re up to and we can help you connect with other members of the Mental community!

We’ve got all kinds of organisations and individual Madvocates, researchers and more on the Mental Mission. Who knows where conversations will lead. But, at the very least, let’s create space for possibility and see what kinds of things we can do with more than ourselves. ✨

8. Got a website? Link people to support! 🔗

People browsing the interwebz are always going through something. We’ve created a cute lil How Mental badge that you can put on your website to direct people to support just in case they need it! A simple way to show you get it, and that you care.

Our aim is to have these EVERYWHERE so that no matter where you are, you’re never too far from a helping hand. So, download them from this pack and make sure when someone clicks it, it links through to www.howmental.com!

9. Email signatures…yes, really! 😝

We all interact with people via email every single day. Well, not all of us, but most of us! So, instead of just saying “I hope you’re well”, show people you MEAN it by adding a lil link to How Mental so they know where to go if they ever need support.

10. Connect us with potential collaborators 🥳

Whether it’s just a tag on socials or, ideally, an email introducing us to the right person to make action HAPPEN - connecting the dots is super important to supporting more people and creating a mentally healthy society. So, we’d be beyond happy to meet anyone you think we could do a mental collab with!

That includes other organisations, creators, anyone and everyone you think genuinely cares (or should care!) about mental health and wellbeing.

We’ve even got a short presentation we can send you about HM to help you explain it to non-madvocates (normalcates? We’ll work on that one…)

Remember, if you want to know how to Madvocate more generally, click here for all the ways to stand up for your wellbeing and support others.

With heart, always <3
